a) My teaching journal
b) Two sample lesson plans
that I liked and why
As the two lesson plans that
I like I have chosen the plans for lessons 14 and 15. I really like those plans
and the designed material for such classes because as a learner I always wanted
to have a class such as those two classes. Those plans represent the Speaking
test preparation lessons I and II and they were designed after a careful search
of valuable information regarding tips, recommendations and steps to succeed
when taking an international speaking test such as the IELTS or the CAE. I like
those lesson plans because I worked so hard on them so they were the base so
that students had a significant learning regarding the proper way to perform
during a standard speaking test.

c) Two sample lesson plans that were particularly difficult and why
I do not want to sound
arrogant but there was no plan that was too difficult over the others and if I
had to choose those plans in which I worked the most I would have chosen the
same two plans that I most liked.
However there were two plans
that represented a challenge for me. One of them was the lesson plan 06 about
the topics Used to, Get used to, and Be used to. It was particularly difficult because
although I worked hard before this class to state the topics in a way students
could understand them easily, I had a big concern as soon as the class started
because it came to my mind that my lesson plan might be too ambitious and that
I could have split the topics of this class into two or three additional classes.
So it was difficult basically because the topics were new and a little complex
to understand, however, I really think the students and I did a very good job
approaching the three topics (Used to, Get used to, Be used to) and developing
the proposed activities.
The other
lesson plan that could be considered as particularly difficult is the one for
speaking session number 07 regarding the Personality traits and emotions. This
plan was particularly difficult because I spent so much time collecting and
choosing vocabulary about adjectives that describe someone’s personality and
feelings. In addition to that I may have made a mistake with the first
presentation activity regarding personality traits. The thing is that I
included too many words related to personality traits and the matching activity
became a little longer than it should and it could also be a little boring, so
it was a little bit hard to deal with that along the live speaking session specially
the first one with group.

d) Samples of didactic
teaching material designed by me
e) The lesson reports
submitted in Stage 3 with their videos
f) Two videos of my classes
that were particularly meaningful to me and why
Speaking session 11 GB
Speaking session 11 GB
This class
was particularly meaningful to me because that day I was teaching about the
usage of modal verbs, specifically the usage of May and Might with an additional
review of the usage of Can and Could. The class was meaningful because the
students found this class very interesting considering that they had a good
idea about the meaning and translation of the modal verbs, but they were not
sure about the usage of each verb. In that sense, the class was focused on the
most important usages of the two modal verbs. By the end of the class with
groups A and B, the students were producing spoken English language using the
proper modal verb for each situation so the goals were well accomplished.
Speaking session 15 GA
This class was particularly
meaningful to me because the students learned something new that they were not
able to do before the class. I think the class was very good because the
information the students received regarding comparing pictures was concrete and
they were able to use it along the class. I consider that the students got a
valuable speaking lesson about something they were about to apply when taking
the Speaking test in session 16. So it was very meaningful to me how with the
correct use of some linking words and modal verbs students were able to compare
pictures and speculate about them.
Speaking session 16 GB
This
speaking session was particularly meaningful to me because everything worked
out the way it was planned. All students attended to the Final Speaking Test
and they followed the instructions of the Test and the whole final speaking
session. I think the stages of the test and the activities that students had to
approach fitted the students’ level of knowledge of the English language, especially
considering they were taking the course Intermediate English II. It was a special
class because that was the last moment I was going to interact with the
students so at the end of the class I just said goodbye and thanked the
students, concluding a great teaching experience for me as a student and as an
English teacher.
g) Anecdotal records
Along the
live speaking sessions there were some facts such as weak internet connection,
issues with the microphone, and so on. Among all that, there were two specific anecdotal
situations that are important to mention.
·
The
first situation is quite evident from sessions 2 to 16 and it is the fact that
I did not use a camera along the live sessions. I once used my laptop with the
camera for the first speaking session but I realized that the quality of the
audio was not that good. On the contrary, when I stated using a PC that did not
have a camera or webcam, the quality of the audio improved significantly so I
decided to keep my sessions that way. For the last speaking session (Speaking
exam), I tried to use my laptop with the camera again so I proved it before the
session started, but some students told me that the audio was not working fine.
So then, even that final day I did not use the camera.
·
The
second anecdotal situation was very particular. During the speaking session
number 15 that I had with the group A, I just told my students that nothing
serious had happened that prevented the development of the classes and I said
that without knowing that precisely that same day something would happen with the
other group. There was a serious incident before the last stage of the session
15 with the group B. The thing is that my desktop computer broke down during
the speaking session and the screen turned blue with the message: SYSTEM THREAD
EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED. So then I had to have someone fixed the computer the
next day. In addition, the class was already longer than 90 minutes so I sent a
message through Skype telling the students that the class was over and I would
send them the PPT presentation as soon as my computer was fixed.
